Abstract:
This study addresses the lack of meaningful access for parents with limited English proficiency from their childrenAAc€™s schools and school systems. Although immigrant parents often strongly desire a good education for their children, they often find it difficult to be involved because of limited English proficiency and having no one at school who can speak to them in their native language. Because parent involvement and support is key for service-learning programs, the insights and strategies for engaging immigrant parents will be enlightening for service-learning leaders.
