Abstract:
This article focuses on Latino Health Access, a community-based organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of recent immigrants in Santa Ana, California. The program recruited, trained, and sent high-risk youth into their communities as health promoters - to promote the health and well-being of other immigrant youth. Based on Brazilian educator Paulo Freire's methods of reflective action, the strategies employed in this program can be readily adapted to service-learning programs.
