Abstract:
This issue of Principals' Research Review contains information on students transitioning from middle school to high school (typically eighth to ninth grade). The authors describe the nature of the problem of freshman transition, in which high schools struggle to meet the needs of all types of students, then go on to describe the most research-supported definition of transition, share the practices of successful programs, and conclude by discussing potential future directions for research and projects centered on transition. Resources for further research and references are provided.
