Institution:
Indiana Institute on Disability and Community
Publication Date:
2010
Abstract:

This wiki captures the work of the Voicing Experience through Service (VETS) Project, which collects, preserves, and makes accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war.

VETS is a Program of National Significance, funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service in partnership with the National Service Inclusion Project. Primary partners are the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community at Indiana University, the University of Vermont and TransCen, Rockville, Maryland. The purpose of the VETS project is to expand service-learning opportunities as part of transition planning for youth with disabilities and increase their participation in community service. VETS pairs young people and veterans to write and submit oral histories to the Library of Congress. VETS has submitted several hundred oral histories and developed strong partnerships with a number of local, state and national partners.

The wiki includes an overview of the VETS Project, a step-by-step guide for implementing the project in the classroom, and a list of additional resources.
