Abstract:
The lesson plan "Understanding Community Using Culture" is a standalone component of a larger, more comprehensive curriculum that has been abstracted from a secondary course on Cherokee Social Studies called "Understanding the Cherokee Experience Using Service Learning." This packet contains the lesson plan, together with an overview of the service-learning pedagogy, supplemental handouts, and two assessment tools (a personal values quiz designed to be used as a guide to assist teachers and students in synthesizing the Desired Attributes of Cherokee Character, and a knowledge content test instrument).
