Abstract: 

This chapter reviews the development of service-learning research in higher education in the United States over the past two decades. Drawing on the author's own involvement in the development of service-learning research and the evolution of the field, the journey to service-learning research moves from establishing research agendas to key research milestones and a vision for future research.
