Abstract:
This essay describes how the author used an online course to provide support for students engaged in tutoring Latino elementary students in the local community. The author discusses how offering the class online not only solved scheduling and logistical problems, but also helped the students accomplish the course goals: gaining hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge for working effecitvely with English-learning K-12 students; understanding issues relating to the education of English learners and Latinos in Georgia; and linking service and learning via structured reflection.
