Abstract:

The authors focus this chapter on the multiple complex relationships between environmental service-learning projects and the host of sometimes overlapping government agencies with regulatory and policy responsiblities in the field. Environmental and public health agencies operate at all levels of government: federal, state, school districts, towns, cities, and counties. These agencies' interactions with service-learning initiatives from the university, faculty, and students are interesting, are sometimes successful, and many times are fraught with difficulties.
