Abstract:
Did you ever wonder what the most influential studies were in K-12 service-learning research? A two-round Delphi study involving researchers and practitioners identified many sources and reached consensus on 9 research reviews and studies that had the most impact on the service-learning field. Analysis and discussion of these important studies revealed several common elements of service-learning practice. Program quality was considered to be of greatest importance. Implications of this review suggest that rather than focus on outcomes, future research on service-learning should emphasize how to create, sustain, and evaluate high quality programs. [author]
