Abstract:
This chapter focuses on high-quality reflection and its role in student learning and development in community service-learning. The first section explores the multiple meanings and connotations of reflection. From this initial place of understanding, the chapter reviews the larger lens of student learning and development theories and their connection to planning and facilitating service-learning reflection. The third and fourth sections delve into the practical details of conceptualizing and actualizing reflection. The closing comments remind us of the balance between intention and serendipity in working with students, community partners, and ourselves. [author]
