Abstract:
The author shares how service-learning connects to school reform and revitalization, and discusses some of the barriers to success in implementing service-learning. She believes that school administrators can become champions of service-learning by being supportive, persistent in their efforts to make sure the school structure supports the service program, committed to educational excellence, action oriented, constantly watchful for barriers, and last, but most importantly, comfortable taking risks as long as well-being and safety of the students are not compromised.
