Abstract:
This chapter examines three theories of development and the two learning theories that could be used, either individually or in combination, to design and evaluate the effectiveness of service-learning programs: (1) psychosocial development Erikson (1963, 1964, 1968, 1982) and Chickering (1969); (2) cognitive development (Gilligan, 1982; Kohlberg, 1981; Perry, 1970); (3) personality type (Jung, 1971); and (4) multiple intelligences (Gardner, 1983, 1993).
