Abstract:
This chapter describes the components of Seattle University's Master in Teaching (MIT) Program related to service-learning and student research, including a rationale for engaging preservice teachers in service-learning research. This is followed by two case studies that exemplify the types of service-learning research projects these students often undertake. Next, positive impacts of these projects are presented. The chapter concludes with a discussion of lessons learned that increase the likelihood of successful service-learning research outcomes. [author]
