Abstract:
In spite of the lack of a fullātime service-learning coordinator, for the past several years Turtle Mountain Community College (TMCC), a small tribal college in north central North Dakota, has had an active service-learning program that has addressed, in a variety of ways, the epidemic of diabetes on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation and in the surrounding area. With the help of an ASSETS grant, the interdisciplinary service-learning program at TMCC has been successful partly because its theme is critically important to the area, but also because it is relevant to a variety of disciplines.
