Abstract:
Two specific questions guided this project and resultant study: 1) How do teachers view the establishment of classroom libraries as a tool for fostering literacy development? And, 2) How do pre-service teachers perceive a literacy-influenced service-learning project as a means of preparing to teach reading in urban environments? This project was framed as a case study designed to explore the efficacy of service-learning in enhancing teacher preparation in regard to literacy in urban environments.
