Abstract:
This chapter describes lessons learned and challenges faced while crafting a service-learning program called EPICS at Butler University. Drawing from such experience, the chapter presents a road map to anyone who is interested in creating a similar EPICS program. Emphasis is given on how a service-learning pedagogical model can be incorporated within a computer science and/or software engineering (CSSE) curriculum successfully. Finally, some qualitative assessment data collected from students and community partners are discussed that validate the success of EPICS at Butler.
