The EPICS program, founded at Purdue University, has proved to be an effective model for university engagement with local communities. Software development has been a vital component of the portfolio of projects within the EPICS program since its inception. Initially, software projects were distributed across the program, with individual divisions supporting software needs for their particular community partner. EPICS restructured and concentrated the software development efforts into specific software divisions that serve multiple community partners. This chapter highlights the efforts of these divisions with examples of database projects that are used across multiple local applications.
