Abstract:
This paper discusses two service-learning projects that were taught by the first author as one-semester computer science software development courses at Bowdoin College. It identifies how these projects were inspired by the HFOSS Project (see Chapter 5), their service-learning components, their pedagogical organization, their impacts, and their usefulness as a model for similar activities within other undergraduate programs in the information sciences.
