Through a competitive process, seven United Negro College Fund (UNCF) members will be awarded grants from the Corporation for National and Community Service for 2003-2006 to develop and foster collaborations with other minority institutions, public school systems, and community-based organizations. The two major goals are (1) to engage HBCUs in increasing the quality and quantity of community service and service-learning programs on their campuses and in surrounding communities through curriculum development and community collaborations, and (2) to increase knowledge about service-learning, civics, community service, and volunteerism among UNCF institutions, other higher education institutions, public agencies, and CBOs. The UNCF/Ford Service Learning Network is the extension of a grant UNCF received from the Corporation for National and Community Service in 1994. UNCF was able to continue the project with funding from the Ford Foundation.
