Building Healthy Communities (BHC) is an after-school initiative to engage youth in service learning to prevent childhood obesity, the most prevalent chronic health problem among American children. BHC empowers students in grades K-8 to make a difference in their communities by learning about and acting to address issues related to developing lifelong healthy habits. BHC sites in New York City are supported by TASC and Children for Children. In New Jersey, sites are supported by New Jersey After3, Inc., and in Philadelphia, by EducationWorks. The curriculum guide comes in three age-appropriate versions: K – 2, 3 – 5 and 6-8. All three versions of the curriculum guide include fitness games from Punk Rope.
