The combined PTO of two adjacent elementary schools decided to focus on improving and addressing erosion problems at the nearby playground, a resource for both schools and the surrounding community. Through a variety of ways, they learned about erosion and how plants could be used to help reduce erosion problems and improve the quality of water run-off. This information was used to help determine how plants could help with the school’s erosion problems when the new playground would be built the following year. Fifth grade and second-grade students worked together planting and improving the surrounding prairie garden and the garden in the school's main entrance.
