Description:
This course provides a comprehensive overview of emergency management including emergency management systems (organizational, communication, response, warning, planning, recovery, and mitigation), mass media involvement in disasters, roles of non-profit organizations, and emergency management in the private sector. Students will examine emergency management history, organization, terminology, resources, facilities, and agency responsibilities. To help serve their local community and to learn the practical realities of emergency planning, students in this course will re-design an emergency plan for a local nonprofit organization.
