Description:
Mountain School, in Gasquet, California, is a small 77- student K-8 school nestled in the Coastal Redwoods, surrounded by the Smith River. As it happens, the school serves as the community center for this town of four hundred. Our grade 6, 7, 8 class has designed and is in the process of building an outdoor classroom, clearing and marking a trail down to the river behind the school. This carefully marked trail will serve as learning tool for the students and the community, as well as a self-guided attraction for the many tourists to the Smith River Recreational Area. During the school year, students will be trained to be docents for the trail.
