Hallie Q. Brown Food Shelf

Description:

Third through sixth grade students in a St. Paul after school program partnered with a neighborhood food shelf to help serve people in need in their local community. The year-long project kicked off with a Fall Festival to benefit The Pet Project, a program that collects pet food donations to help food shelf clients feed their pets. Next they held a holiday toy drive to benefit the food shelf Toy Boutique that provides clients a chance to select toys during the holidays. During March, students held an all-school food drive contest to benefit the food shelf during the Minnesota Food Share’s March Campaign. Their goal was to collect more food than last year and they did it by collecting over 4,100 items of food! The students, using the campaign slogan “Be a Superhero in the Fight Against Hunger” created superhero masks for all the students to wear as they delivered the food to the food shelf.
