Humane High School

Description:

Humane High School is for students in grades 7-12 and offers projects, service-learning ideas, career information and free on-line courses. It is designed to build civic awareness of animal-related issues and expand the reach of youth to include peers and community members in service-based work.

Humane High School, located at http://www.humanesociety.org/teens, features free online courses and materials that help middle- and high-school students learn about animal protection and become more involved in their communities. Course topics include the legislative process and the basics of lobbying. Other Humane High School resources include study and activity guides and fact sheets on key animal protection issues and lists of animal-related service-learning ideas by academic subject area. Humane High School will benefit students by allowing them to utilize multiple and varied learning styles to connect academic instruction to life, to participate in career exploration, and to learn skills that can be used in internships and in the workforce. Students completing the courses will be able to develop meaningful community involvement by helping build civic awareness of animal-related issues and expanding the work of local animal care/control organizations.
