Every spring the physical education department administers the FitnessGram state of California mandated fitness testing to all freshmen. The majority of our classes are fairly large, typically 40-42 students for each teacher. The task to organize and administer all the required tests effectively and correctly is very time consuming and difficult for one teacher to complete. So we have now developed peer administrators for the testing. During the process the students develop a weeklong testing schedule for the teachers to follow. When making the schedule the students take into consideration the following: facility usage, testing equipment needed, length of class period, and number of students in each class. Once a master-testing schedule has been developed then the students assign themselves as peer administrators to each class/period - taking into account that each teacher has enough peer administrators for the testing time allotted. Prior to becoming a peer administrator each student must be in serviced on the FitnessGram standardized fitness testing.
