This project addressed global community needs. The research that is occurring on terrapins has concluded that they are laying their eggs later and later due to global warming. The eggs would not be able to survive a New Jersey winter based on the time that the terrapins are arriving on the beach. The students receive hatchlings from the researcher and were charged with taking care of them. The students were contributing to the global environment by increasing the odds of survival of diamondback terrapins in the Barnegat Bay, New Jersey area. In addition, the local community benefitted by the students educating them as to why terrapins are a concerned species, how individuals can help, and basic animal education.
