Redwood Energy Education Project

Description:

Redwood Energy Education Project (REEP) Redwood Energy Education Project (REEP) is a grant through Redwood Community Action Agency, which supports projects at Eureka High School designed to educate youth about energy conservation and renewable energy. This three part project educated 11th and 12th graders in Robert Child's two Environmental Field Biology classes about energy conservation and renewable energy sources. The students learned where energy comes from, how it is generated, methods of conservation and reasons why we should conserve energy.

The first component was a research project focused on energy generation systems. Second  was a job shadow field trip to find out about careers in the energy field, see working renewable energy systems, and participate in workshops. Thirdly, for the main service component, the Field Biology classes did cross-age presentations at a local elementary school, for 4-6th graders and a Special Day Cass about energy conservation.

REEP intends to impart a conservation ethic in youth and guide them in making educated decisions about their energy use while making connections between their consumption and its repercussions.
