Reuse, Recycle, Restore

Description:

The principles of REUSE, RECYCLE, RESTORE are important lifestyle practices that protect the natural resources in our community. Therefore, we have explored how our choices with regard to waste material can have a positive or negative impact on our environment, as well as the quality of life in our St. Paul neighborhoods. We have created, in our classroom, a mini-landfill, a mini trash filled ponding area and several compost bags. After one month, we looked at these, smelled and felt them, and ALL came to the conclusion that given the choice, we would rather compost as much as we can so that trash is reduced and not washed into wetland areas or parked in a landfill. We have also visited several watershed areas and studied the insect and animal life there to measure the health and well being of the watershed. We are currently developing a garden waste compost site to teach how to use compost to restore the soil in our school garden.
