Scratch at MCTM

Description:

Scratch is programming software developed at Massachusetts Institute of Technology to encourage children to make their own computer games and animations. The goal of this project was to teach Scratch to teachers, so they can teach their students. This class of St. Paul 6th grade students was the first group of students to present at the Minnesota Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) conference in Duluth. Scratch is about helping students learn math in a more fun way. We used Scratch ourselves to understand concepts like coordinates and similarity. We chose sample projects and decided what to teach. Then we got ready for the conference by scheduling other classes to come in, so we could practice teaching.
