Students from Giant Steps, a school for children with autism, found a farm that housed over 100 animals that had been abused and neglected, or were disabled and unadoptable. The farm depends totally on volunteers and donations. Students researched what items the farm needed. They collected a truck load of towels and blankets, and sorted and bundled these items in groups of five for easy use. The farmer liked the idea of having the students visit the farm to bring the collected items and our homemade dog biscuits. The students worked as volunteers on the farm for a day: brushing dogs, picking up litter, and feeding animals.
The students also delivered over $500 to the farm, which was money raised by selling homemade dog biscuits. The farm had just recently suffered flooding which had caused some serious problems for the farmer and loss of income. The donation came exactly when the farm was in dire need.
