This course syllabus and handouts were designed for Physician Assistant students who wanted to learn basic Spanish phrases so they could successfully communicate with the Spanish-speaking patients.
Upon completion of the course, students were able to:
1. Comprehend and create dialogues in basic conversational Spanish, appropriate to specific health care professions to assess medial history, make appointments, assess health risks, etc.
2. Articulate and respond to patient concerns, care, and comfort
3. Conduct basic interviews (assessments) in Spanish, such as registration interview, health history, and/or physical assessment
4. Comprehend cultural and social factors that influence the practitioner-patient communication with Spanish-speaking people and other immigrants to the U.S.
