This project originated with our community partner, Stewards of Slavianka. They invited my agriculture students to participate. This is a long term project for juniors and seniors who will be conducting on site studies (water quality, aggregate evaluations, erosion control, invertebrate counts) to determine the present conditions and what the needs are to reestablish salmon to Willow Creek. We will then be part of the process in developing a plan and the actual work necessary to improve the watershed. This has been a great opportunity not only to involve my students in helping their community but to give them some practical experience working with concepts learned in class. It has also been beneficial for the students to work alongside professionals, park rangers, wildlife biologists.
