
Over 70 students from Kapiolani Community College honored the spirit of Dr. King by proving a much-needed service to a struggling community—Hawaii's rising homeless population. KCC’s service-learning team partnered with Hawai’i Helping the Hungry to Have Hope (H-5) to convert an old tour bus into a temporary homeless shelter, as part of the Evans Bus Project. The new mobile shelter joins an existing fleet of three buses as part of a shelter complex that includes restrooms, tables, and running water. KCC students also helped build a roof for an outdoor area for the complex, and transformed an air freight container into a computer room for residents. Watch video from the event on
