Brownies for Education

We are a group of sophomore students at Lake Forest Academy whose mission was to raise money in order to buy school supplies for students less fortunate than us. In order to do this, we organized a team composed of students who were interested in bettering the education system in America. To begin our task, we set out a mission statement for what we wanted to achieve and came up with a schedule of the events that we were going to complete in order to reach our goal. We wrote a letter to the head of the Literacy Corps, a community service group in our school, asking how we could help them. They gave us a list of things that were needed by the students in order to successfully learn during the school year.

We baked brownies on March 2nd in our school’s cafeteria, and then sold the brownies in the dorms later that night (our school is a boarding school). There were three different dorms that we sold too and we found that the dorm that bought the largest amount of brownies was the girl’s dorm. We raised $201 from doing this which we used to buy school supplies for a local school program called Boys and Girls Club of North Chicago.

We bought markers, crayons, construction paper and disposable cameras to be used for a special writing assignment for 3rd and 4th grades.
