More than Just Words

Oakridge Middle School, Clover, SC Giving Back Team Project supported the Books 2 Students Project this year. This project supports the "Corridor of Shame" Schools in South Carolina. The "Corridor of Shame" schools are high poverty schools with limited resources. We partnered with the York County Education Association-Retired on the project. We set a school-wide goal to collect 1000 books during the month of March. Our curriculum connections included viewing the COS video that tells about the plight of these students and the troubling conditions under which they face at their schools each day. Students also did short talks on our morning news show to promote the project. The project was a tremendous success with over 2000 books being collected school wide. The books are being transported to the Corridor of Shame schools this month.
