Project Linus Blanket-Making
"On our seminar project with Lake Forest Academy, we made blankets for children in hospitals. The name of our project is Project Linus, and our goal is to make children who need others' help feel warm. This idea of making blankets came from our group leader, Bailey. When she was in the hospital with a broken lower jaw, someone made her a blanket, which cheered her up a lot. Since this experience, we set our goal that we should collect blankets and give them to the children who are suffering in the hospital.
We took a few classes to discuss the details of fund-raising, purchasing blankets, involving volunteers, and so on. With the help of our instructor, Ms.Collins, we got in touch with Project Linus leaders and had a conversation with one of their volunteers.
Before the blanket-making day, we put up posters around the campus to let more people join us and get to know our project. Other people who were not in our group came and helped us. Thus, we were much more efficient than before.
Working with Project Linus, we really felt that the happiness of helping others, especially thinking about the smiles on the children's faces. Not only me, but also others members were so happy that we could help others who are suffering. It's great to imagine if we could have hundreds of thousands of volunteers over the country. Moreover, the children who received help may do the same thing as us to help others in the future. Thus, we could pass the idea of helping others for the next generation and beyond."
