Service-Learning VIP: Brendan
I didn't really learn the value of service for myself until the day I began to fully appreciate what it meant for the people receiving the service. I have done various service projects over the course of my young life, but each one struck a new chord as I realized the effects of what seemed to be a small action. One of my fondest memories of service has been working through my church with a program that provides homeless families a place to sleep. The children there are some of the happiest I have ever met because they appreciate everything they have that day. It really forced me to appreciate the things I had before me, just by luck, because at the end of the day, the only thing that separates me from those children was that luck.I recently received word that I have the good fortune of being a Senate page this summer in D.C. for Senator Harry Reid. My volunteer and service experiences played a big part in my getting this position.
