Food Bank Volunteers

"We, a group of sophomores at Lake Forest Academy, strive to advocate for the hungry and homeless people of Northern Illinois. The Northern Illinois Food Bank is a non-profit organization that strives to create a hunger-free Illinois. As of right now, 11.1% of Illinois residents are facing food insecurity. In addition to this, there are 1,532,238 people who are living in poverty in Illinois. These facts prompted us to help the Northern Illinois Food Bank. After gathering the necessary materials and promoting a hunger-free Northern Illinois in our school, we gathered a group of people who were also concerned with our cause, and drove to the Northern Illinois Food Bank. We were all very excited to help members of their community. We worked from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on various jobs. Some of us were sorting the frozen meat into the four lines: pork, poultry, beef, and mixed, while other people were putting the meat into the boxes, taping the boxes, or moving the boxes onto the plates. The next step that we plan to take is to return to the food bank, hopefully bringing more people along. Our future plans to help the hungry are to increase awareness at LFA and get others to join us at the Food Bank."
