Brownies for Blankets
"We are a group of students in a sophomore seminar class from Lake Forest Academy. We wanted to help homeless people who need blankets and don't have enough food. We had a bake sale to raise money to buy fleece fabric and food, and we made blankets using the fabric we bought. We then donated the blankets to the homeless shelter we visited and made breakfast for them. We were affected pretty deeply, because it made us realize that a lot of people are less fortunate than us, and so this made us feel very lucky to be in the position we are in. They are looking for jobs every day and live in small basement rooms. It also made us want to continue helping the homeless. We were also very happy when we were doing the service project because we knew we had helped people in tough situations.
We are going to give a PowerPoint presentation about our project to the entire LFA sophomore community and teachers to try and raise awareness of how many people are in tough positions and are out of work. We hope to spread the word all over so that people will take action."
