ACT for ART
"Our organization strives to advocate for groups within our community that help with education in the arts of underprivileged children in the area, opening up opportunities for volunteers and donators. For our initial service event we brought A.J. Katzenmaier students, our partner school through North Chicago Community Partners, to see the matinee performance of The Sound of Music here on our campus at Lake Forest Academy. We had a faculty versus students indoor field hockey game as a fundraiser to raise money to purchase lunch and art supplies for these children. These children really enjoyed the performance, as they usually do not have the opportunity to watch musicals or other live shows. Working with Literacy Corps, Project Pumpkin and other clubs supporting after school programs at our partner elementary school, we can advocate together to make sure groups that help with the education of these children have enough volunteers and supplies.
As we really found the experience rewarding, in what ways can we make sure that the children receive a well-rounded education in both academics and the arts?"
