Service-Learning VIP: Shannon

I founded SHARE, a nonprofit organization to empower African girls through education. The past two summers I have traveled to Tanzania to teach English to the "SHARE girls" and open new afterschool reading rooms. SHARE renovates deteriorated classrooms, creates school libraries, and employs teachers. During the school year I give presentations to mobilize students to hold fundraisers and book drives, enabling SHARE to ship tons of donated children's books and school supplies to Tanzania. Today 150 SHARE girls meet 6 times each week to become literate to help themselves out of poverty. Our motto: Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.
