Service-Learning VIPs: Federico Degetau II Grammar School

Sixth graders at the Federico Degetau II Grammar School in the township of Aibonito, Puerto Rico, participated in a year-long afterschool project, including one month in summer, called "In Harmony with our Environment." Their goal was for participants be trained in issues regarding the environment such as recycling; water, land and air pollution; planting trees, as well as develop environmental projects in their communities. In this picture, students show off their dioramas created from recycled materials that showed before and after clean- up projects—one from their community and a follow-up they did at their own homes. They developed portfolios that tracked projects, reflections and photos from the year.
